Eat Pray Love - My Thoughts

The movie depicts what has happened to the American way of thinking. People today are so caught up in what they think they should be doing with their lives they sadly miss what is truly important to them as an individual. This “American way” of thinking causes the vast majority to live a life of “happy misery”. Liz Gilbert took a bold step and decided to break out of her misery and discover what would truly make her happy.

Most people stay in their happy misery because it’s safe, and leaving it would mean losing what they think they have gained from careers and jobs that most of them hate. Others, like Liz, leave their misery to grow. I applaud her for embarking on a voyage that could be seen as self-indulgent but in reality broadens her self-knowledge.

Ultimately, she broke free of the dull way most Americans think they should live their lives to be successful and obtain the ever so elusive American dream (which most of us will never experience).

Whereas the movie was lacking in productive depth, the depth was there for those that could relate to Liz, whether they are in the beginning phase of needing to embark on that same type of journey, or they had already taken the leap. Perhaps those that think it was shallow should take the plunge. I dare you.

You know my thoughts madam. I think this movie, if received properly, calls for its audience to take an introspective and retrospective look at themselves and what matters to them. God is the center of all.....the world, the universe, and of course us. He is "the source". Liz in this movie had lost touch with this source, but realized early that she had to reconnect. She prayed first. And then waited on her answer, not some "sign", but a real answer. What we have to realize is that the "right" and "wrong" of the process is often irrelevant, but the LESSON and LEARNING it are most important. God will allow us to beat our heads against a brick wall a thousand times UNTIL we get it, and probably giggle every time we say ouch. Yet he rejoices in the day that we no longer HAVE to beat our heads against that wall, because we finally got it. Liz took some unorthodox means to regain her center, but it worked for her. She realized what mattered TO HER. The lesson I took from this movie is that each persons journey is different. Each person's choices are different. Each person's destiny is different. But we are all connected by that one thing, The Source. It was irrelevant to me that the religion was Hindu that brought her back to herself because it was that very moment that I realized we were all seeking the SAME thing, no matter what religion we chose to worship to find it. When we realize that ultimate connection and focus on the God within us, then religion will cease to matter and that relationship with God will reign supreme and so will God, by whichever name we choose to call Him. For me, I call him Saviour.

Unfortunately, some may never know or realize that His name is not Buddha or Yoda. Let's hope that in finding herself on this journey she also found the true living God in the end.
